Choosing a bike

E-bike or standard bike for Cromwell?

For the 42 km down to Clyde we recommend an e-bike for most riders, because of the distance and the two main climbs. Mountain bikes suit riders who cycle regularly, and it makes a full day of riding. Kids' e-bikes start at 24-inch wheels.

The transport is done first thing in the morning, so the rest of the day is just riding.

The Lake Dunstan Trail, the Kawarau Gorge Trail, which runs past the front of the depot, or our self-guided DeVineCycle day between cellar doors. DeVineCycle is Grade 1 to 2, so it suits less confident riders, and it lets you ride part of the Lake Dunstan Trail without the Cairnmuir Ladder.
